Review: Womanizer W100

This model of Womanizer is discontinued.

This has got to be one of the most difficult reviews I’ve done so far. It’s hard to put my experience with the Womanizer W100 into words, but here we go.

Let’s get the first thing out of the way. The name. Yeah. Womanizer. Like other reviewers, I wondered if something was lost in translation. It turns out that in German, “Womanizer” doesn’t have the negative connotation that it does in English. It’s more of a term of endearment. Still, they should consider naming it. To be honest, when I first heard about it, I was less than impressed, in large part because of the name. Then the reviews started to roll in.

I had my first foray with a Womanizer back in December 2015 when a friend and colleague of mine received one and was curious about using the Womanizer in other ways, like on nipples. I happily donated mine to this research. It was quite enjoyable used in that way. Not, like orgasmic, but it felt like a lovely, light suction.

Fast forward to March, I was contacted by folks who work for Womanizer who asked if I’d like to review one. A few days later, I received my W100 and I was thrilled! I tried it almost right away. I recalled seeing some press release about it promising a 60-second orgasm. I was, understandably, skeptical. Let me just be clear, I don’t think I’ve ever had a zero to 60 orgasm with the W100. Regardless, I do think there is a bit of a learning curve.

With a few months of practice with this device, I am convinced I love it. I’ve used the W100 pretty consistently, though not exclusively. Orgasms with it are fairly quick, not that that matters to me much, and not like I keep a stopwatch on in the background. I would maybe guess that I’ve had orgasms within 5 minutes of placing it on myself. Orgasms are always super intense for me with W100. I did not share this when I tweeted about my first experience, but I recall that it felt like the orgasm had been ripped out of me. It was very sudden and abrupt.

So, I think it does take a bit of playing around and seeing what feels good to you. I tend to cycle through the intensity settings, ramping up and then back down. I’ve played around a little bit, by using the W100 on my nipples. I try to take my time in a masturbation session (or an Orgasmic Yoga session) to become aroused gradually before even adding the Womanizer into the mix.

Using the Womanizer W100

Aside from a little bit of a learning curve which I’ve mentioned already, operating the Womanizer W100 is fairly straightforward. There’s a small “On/Off” switch that doubles as the way to decrease the intensity. The large jewel is what increases the intensity by five levels. The upper levels were a bit too intense for me for very long. I usually stick between 2 and 3. Water based lube is recommended, so I used either Sliquid Sassy or Good Clean Love’s Almost Naked

Womanizer W100_3It’s easy to hold and lightweight, which is super important. There was a teensy bit of a challenge maneuvering the Womanizer as a fat person. Keeping it real, here. To reach the power button to lower the intensity, I have to tilt the device in such a way that I basically lose the placement. Also, while I don’t have much in the way of inner labia, I have very plump lips and mons. Ultimately, one of the best ways to access my clit for the Womanizer to stimulate me effectively, I have to spread my lips with both hands and (somehow) also grip the device.

The tip lights up. “For use in the dark.” Sure. I can’t see what I’m doing anyway, I’m going by feel, so that’s not a feature I care much about.

I mentioned above that there’s a very light suction. That’s not quite accurate, but it’s a bit challenging to explain. It’s not like a pump, it does not suck my clit or any skin into the tip. It seems to take in air – hence the “PleasureAir Technology.” It’s like it gently blows waves of air at the clit, like a ptt, ptt, ptt, ptt. The closest thing I can compare it to is oral sex from a very skilled lover.

Also, the W100 is much quieter than I would have expected. As the settings increase and when it’s not pressed onto the body it does get louder, but when nestled against a clit it’s nearly silent.

Cleaning the Womanizer is interesting. I mainly stick to using wipes for both the body and the tip. The tip is silicone and slides right off (it comes with a second one, too) and it can be washed with soap and all that. Gunk will make its way into the seam, so be mindful of that. Cleaning it with a toothpick, or a soft toothbrush is probably a good idea.

Final thoughts

I love my version of the Womanizer W100. I love the color scheme I received. The W100 does come in a few other color varieties. Some may be more gaudy that others. To be fair, that is in the eye of the beholder. If I had my druthers there would be other less “femme” packaging. I think this device could be something of interest for transmen, genderqueer/genderfluid, and gender nonconforming folks with clitorises, particularly if touching their bits is distressing. On the other hand, there’s potentially a disconnect for those populations wanting to try this toy with the current loudly “feminine” color schemes.

I love that the Womanizer comes with a case to hold the toy, the extra tip, and the USB cord. The case is very helpful, ’cause I don’t know about you, but I’m just about drowning in toys.

It’s got a great battery life. I know it was charged at least partially when I received it. I think I charged it maybe once since I’ve had it. Once in over two months with almost daily use for half that time.

The Womanizer is pricey at $189, let’s be clear. It’s got the same price industry-wide. There are a few perks that might be useful, however. Because of it’s steep price point, most shops at a minimum include free shipping. Some will throw in a bottle of lube.

  1. I have one. Works best for me if I am already aroused. Last time I used it, my partner put himself on top of me and we both enjoyed the vibrations.
