Review: OhMiBod blueMotion Nex 1 Bluetooth Remote Vibrator
I really want to love OhMiBod’s blueMotion Nex 1. And I do like certain elements of it, but I have to definitely have to reframe it in my mind as a toy for foreplay rather than a toy that will get me off. (Your mileage may vary.)
Let’s talk about the vibe, first.
In the first place, I’m not a fan of Nex 1 being such firm plastic. [Get ready for TMI.] My vulva is quite meaty. I have almost no inner labia to speak of, but my outer labia are very full and my clit is not accessible at all unless my lips are spread a bit. So, unless I wedge the Nex 1 in between my lips, I’m mostly just vibrating the outside of my vulva. And if I do place the vibe between my labia, now I’m dealing with a hard plastic object spreading me all over the place, making me feel exposed (not in a good way), and just poking me uncomfortably in general. There is no way I’d be comfortable, physically or mentally, to wear Nex 1 “out on the town.”
The vibrations are pretty strong, albeit buzzy, a frequency I’m not usually a fan of. However, because I wasn’t really getting direct clitoral stimulation, it was equal parts bearable and ticklish. But there was no way I was going to have an orgasm with the Nex 1, which is a bummer at this price point.
Aesthetically, it bothers me that there are lettering and raised markings on the outer part of Nex 1. It just ruins the look, in my opinion. The on/off button is decently sized, I didn’t have to hunt for it as with some other toys; it was easy to press, and it wasn’t much of a problem in terms of worrying it would turn off mid-use.
I’d be very interested in trying out OhMiBod’s vibrating dildo version, Nex 2. My impression is it’s much more versatile in terms of being able to provide clitoral stimulation, while being intended for penetration. And, of course, it has the interactive “couples” element that can be playful. Then again, that doesn’t solve the issue of (discreet) wearable sex tech.
How about that app?
It’s certainly visually attractive app. It’s all futuristic that the blueMotion Nex 1 is all controlled via an app on your smart device, but there’s almost too much going on. There’s a texting feature, which I guess is actually quite handy since the vibration stops when you exit out of the app, even for a moment. This is even true when used via WiFi mode with a partner. The controls “lock” when you give over the reigns to a partner, but you can tap the lightening bolt in the top of the screen to kick them out. I kind of wish there was a way to control the vibe in addition to the bluetooth/WiFi options, it might make things a little simpler. Still, it’s pretty exciting that you can search for your partner’s user name and use a toy over WiFi and be miles apart.
My super helpful friend who works in the realm of IT (he knows who he is), and lives at least 50 miles away, wished there was more feedback on his end when he was in control of the vibrations. He said he had no idea if he was actually doing anything. On my end, it actually flashed on the screen the vibration choice/setting that was playing. My friend also noted that there was no noticeable notification of the chat until he went into that feature.
This might just be nitpicking, but honestly, I was a little annoyed at first to see pink (girl) and blue (boy) texting, but then it occurred to me that it might be more about the color scheme of the blueMotion toys, than the gender/sex you enter into the app when you sign up.
It comes with panties!
If these panties aren’t the definition of OSFM (One Size Fits Most), I don’t know what is. (They do warn you in the manual, so that’s something.) [Side note: On Good Vibrations’ website, they list the panties as one-size-fits-some, which is much more accurate.] For reference, I wear clothes ranging from an 18 to 24 (USA) and I could barely get the undies up to my hips. I will say that is a super cute lacy blue thong. And the crotch has a slot to slide a vibe into, which is thoughtful, but maybe not much of a selling point for us plus size folk.
Specs and Cleaning
The OhMiBod Nex 1 comes with a USB charging cord, a blue lace OSFM thong, a small drawstring pouch, and a multilingual instruction manual. It is very important to note that the blueMotion Nex 1 is not waterproof, a real shame when it’s over $100. It’s got a little plug to close up the charging port, but you really don’t want to get this device under a lot of water. Nex 1 is made of ABS plastic with a velvety coating. Toy cleaner might be your best bet, or a damp washcloth or paper towel.
I took a comparative shot (I tend to do this with many of the vibes I review) with my We-Vibe Touch. As you can see, the Nex 1 and the Touch are very close in size, both hovering around 4 inches long.
At the time of this posting, Good Vibrations has the OhMiBod Nex 1 listed at $129. They do have free shipping on orders of at least $59, and that may be a selling point for some. Sometimes Good Vibes will have a sale or promotion that will bring the price down, and I will try to post that here (and on my sales & deals page) when it’s relevant.
For the price point and that it didn’t work with my anatomy super well, and the panties didn’t fit me at all, I can’t really recommend the Nex 1. It’s a great idea, that needs to be fleshed out a bit more. But certainly, take into account that anatomy is different! If you are below a size 18, and your clitoris is more prominent, or exposed, you may actually love this toy.
A big thank you to Good Vibrations for sending me the OhMiBod blueMotion Nex 1 Bluetooth Remote Vibrator!
