Review: Blush Novelties Avant D4 Sexy in Pink Dildo

I have lusted after the gorgeous Avant line of dildos for a while. They first came out with ones similar to this D4 with varying color blocks and silhouettes. Later, more designs, in both dildos and butt plugs, were introduced based on LGBTQ+ pride colors.

It had been weeks, maybe months, since the last time I had incorporated penetration into my self-pleasure practice and when I finally unboxed the Avant D4 to have a few trials with it I was a bit nervous. The way it sat in the package with the clear plastic tray display, I didn’t notice how pronounced the tip was. Despite not having used any insertable toys in quite some time, I was impatient to use it and skipped any real warm up. Adding some lube (Sliquid Silk) was definitely needed to get started and because it’s a more matte silicone it needed a couple more applications while in use.

Once I had the Avant D4 in, it filled me up so nicely. Depending on how it was rotated while thrusting it created a new sensation. When the two vertical bumps toward the base were off to the side it was more of a smooth feeling. In use, the pronounced ridge around the head tugs against my g-spot in a deliberate way. Pulling it almost all the way out gave my g-spot a nice bit of attention. If I spent an extended amount of time with the D4, I think it could warm me up nicely for a squirting sesh, though I might, in that case still end up opting for something really firm like the njoy Pure Wand.

The Avant D4 is definitely on the girthy side of the spectrum. The tip is a bit over 5.5 inches in circumference which for me was quite sizable to start off with, a bit of a stretch, really. (Not painful, just whoa!) The larger vertical ridges toward the base are about the same circumference (~5.5 inches around).

The satin-y finish of the silicone provides a nice amount of drag while using the Avant D4. It’s not super slide-y or slippery like a glossier finish might be. It feels quite satisfying to feel it knock against my cervix when it’s inserted all the way. Having orgasms with it inserted also were delicious, deep, and felt full.

As with many other insertable toys I’ve reviewed in the past, I am frustrated that there is no easily distinguishable marking on the base of the Blush Avant D4. As things get going with lube, it becomes difficult to tell which direction the toy is facing. It would be useful and helpful to have some sort of slightly raised or embossed logo, or something tactile to use to gauge whether up is down or down is up. The D4 also has a suction cup base. I think this could be a useful feature for some folks, but I don’t see myself ever utilizing it. However, because the base is concave rather than flat, I’m unsure whether that makes it more challenging to grip while thrusting or if there would be no difference. Also, since it has a decent flared base, the D4 is butt-safe, too.

Cleaning and Caring for the Avant D4

The Blush Avant D4 is silicone and it has no motorized or tech-related bits so it is boilable and can be washed on the top rack of your dishwasher if you are lucky enough to have one. I’ve simply washed mine with warm water and soap which was easy peasy. The cool thing with this more matte, satin-y finish is it doesn’t seem to attract an excessive amount of dust or lint. (I don’t have pets, so your mileage may vary.)

It is recommended that you do not use silicone lube on the Avant D4. If you want to do a patch test, you can take a little bit of lube and test it on the bottom of the base, and leave it for a while. If there is no warping, you’d be good to go. I have used Sliquid Silk lube which is a hybrid (mostly water-based with a little silicone) so far with no adverse effects. Sticking to full-on water–based lube is a good call as well.

Final Thoughts

All in all, I really loved the Blush Novelties Avant D4! I love the color scheme – it’s fun and pretty on brand for me (though I would love a pink and teal combo, Blush, if you’re reading this!). It’s a great size – pushing towards a large toy, but still pretty manageable. It’s at a reasonable price point for such a nice toy.
