Review: Bijoux Indiscrets Maze Thin Handcuffs

I was very excited to review something that doesn’t need to be used on bits. When I saw that SheVibe had a few things from Bijoux available for review I took a peek at their items. I was drawn to the harnesses, but was disappointed to see that they were not fat friendly. Not surprising, really. Luckily, I could review a pair of handcuffs.

So, without further ado…

Bijoux Indiscrets Maze Thin HandcuffsFull disclosure, I have not had a chance to use the Bijoux cuffs with a partner, I have worn them lots of times as a bracelet. For shits and giggles I have placed myself into both cuffs. In the photo to the left, I was hanging at Wicked Grounds with my amazing friend LaTerra, who took this photo. I slipped both my hands into the cuffs (while saying, “Houdini!”) and then proceeded to sip my iced latte. I’m a goofball.

These handcuffs are fairly lightweight and comfy to wear. When they jingle, they aren’t super quiet but they aren’t loud either. I’m not sure that the links and other “gold” accents are actual metal. The sound they make when they move, or when I shake them doesn’t fully convince me…also I tried placing a magnet against them because science (hat tip to my brother for that suggestion).

One of the best comments I received was while wearing the Bijoux Maze cuffs as a bracelet. Educator Andy said that it’s like flagging for femmes. As a femme, I love that! In fact, that’s part of why I wear these Bijoux cuffs as jewelry when I dress up a tiny bit to go about my day. It’s not that I’m hoping to have a BDSM scene while shopping at Trader Joe’s, but if it catches the eye of the cute, queer-looking, checkout person and we flirt a bit, that’s fun!

When I wear the Maze Thin Handcuffs, I wear them on my left wrist (even though I’m not flagging as a Top), it’s just more convenient since I’m right-handed. My left wrist is 7.5 inches around. I wear them buckled on the second to last hole and they are quite roomy. There are four holes total; two that would be tighter than the one I wear it on. I am able to fasten the cuffs at the first and second notches. The first notch fits pretty snuggly, not quite tight; I can shift it around a little. I would not fasten them on the first notch if I were legit using them for bondage because that would get tight quick.

PSA: Make sure you can slip in at least one finger, preferably two fingers between the wrist and the cuff.

Fastening the cuff on the second notch, I am able to fit two fingers through but it feels comfortable and secure. The description on SheVibe’s site says that “One size fits most” and I would agree with that. If your wrists are up to ~9 ¾ inches around (based on where the fourth notch is), then the Bijoux Indiscrets Maze Thin Handcuffs could work for you.

Maze Cuffs w FloggerHow ‘Thin’ Are They?

It should be noted that “thin” is in the name of these cuffs. The Bijoux Indiscrets Maze Thin Handcuffs measure 0.5 inch wide. Any narrower, in my opinion, and they’d feel super delicate. At this width, they feel secure and comfortable without being bulky.

Packaging

The Bijoux Indiscrets Maze Thin Handcuffs come in a nice black box with gold detailing. Well, that’s the front, anyway. The side has a sticker with some info on it, including “handcuffs” in 10 languages. The back has a photo of a model wearing the cuffs (slim, white appearing cis woman, unsurprising) along with this corny sentence: Enter the MAZE and lose yourself. Oy vey.

The rest of the actual packaging is quite nice. I had nearly forgotten that I’d recorded a one-handed unboxing video way back in January. It’s kind of silly in that it takes a while for me to undo the packaging one-handed, and left-handed at that, but I think I show the detail of the cuffs fairly well. So, check that out! (Side bar note: OMG I miss that birthday manicure I had at the time! Ugh! Loved it!)

I will add that the box makes a great place for storing the cuffs when they aren’t being worn.

Though there is a light leather scent, the Bijoux Maze cuffs are 100% vegan, with polyurethane straps made from recycled materials. They come in black as well as brown. They have a nice little detailing of their branding stamped into one of the tips.

The instructions call for wiping them down with a soft damp cloth and a little “neutral” soap. I’m not quite sure what that might be, but a leather soap might be gentle enough. I have not put my pair of cuffs through much strain or mess so I’ve not attempted cleaning them, to be honest.

Final Thoughts

These Maze Thin Handcuffs are a fun piece for those who want to dip their toes into bondage but maybe aren’t ready to commit to the intricacies of rope, aren’t quite ready to dive into the vast (maybe scary) array of BDSM gear. Also, these cuffs are great if you’re on a budget and can’t shell out tons of coin but you want to get your kink on.

There are two small downsides for me. One is that they are permanently attached. You cannot unclip the cuffs from each other. That might be a nice feature to add if there’s another version at a slightly higher price point. And secondly, the wear that happens from pulling the strap out of the notch and poking the notch back through the holes. I hadn’t done much of that until I began writing this review in earnest. I’m a little bummed that they are looking a bit more ragged or worn than when I first got them. C’est la vie!

At under $40 (as of this posting they run at $35.99 at SheVibe), and for their double function of bondage and jewelry/accessory the Maze Thin Handcuffs are a great investment. It’s an added bonus that they aren’t made of real leather. For the record, I’m not anti-leather; I like faux leather, too, when it’s well-made.

Bonus! Get two pairs of the Maze Thin Handcuffs and you can attach one cuff from each wrist to two bedposts! If you have bedposts, of course.

Huge, ginormous thank you to SheVibe for sending me these cuffs to review!
