Review: Minna Limon Touch-Responsive Vibrator

Innovation in the sex toy world is rare. Companies might try to come up with something new, but more often than not it’s just a lot of talk. Hype might surround a product and make one skeptical as to how it could possibly live up to all the chatter. This is the deal with the Minna Limon: I never “got” it. It never made sense to me. Even after messing around with it, I was a little skeptical. Part of those last vestiges of skepticism was the learning curve associated with this unique toy. I’m not going to lie, at just under $120, it’s a little pricey. But I really do think that the functionality makes the Limon totally worth it.

My experience

I played around with the Limon in my hand for days, maybe even weeks, before ever trying it between my legs. The squish of the midsection (which is what controls the strength of the vibration) is a lot of fun to mess around with. I read the instructions and thought I knew how to work it. Well, by the time I got it all lubed up and was attempting to get down with the Limon, I realized I may not have as good of a grasp on it as I thought. It got me off, which was cool, but it was still a bit of a mind fuck knowing I hadn’t used it quite right. I was talking about my experience with the Limon to the amazing Andy of Good Vibes, who hooked me up with the toy in the first place. Something was just not meshing together. I definitely needed his step-by-step explanation (so helpful!) of how to set it up, but that’s a learning curve for you.

I joke that the Minna Limon is the kind of vibrator you can “Set and Forget.” Unlike most vibrators, the Limon does not come with settings or patterns. You get to custom make them! You can make it as strong or as light you want, with as much or as little variation. This thing is banana sandwich! (Amazing!) And even cooler: you can change up the setting whenever you want because it’s only locked in as long as you’ve got it programmed. (It erases when you power off the toy.)

The battery on the Limon is serious business. It arrived fully charged (indicated by three buzzes when I turned it on) and kept that charge for quite a long time. It was a couple months until it was down to a “medium” charge (two buzzes). Granted I wasn’t using the toy consistently, or for long bursts of time, but still: that’s a really long time!

When I finally got my setting locked in and ready to roll, I was pleased by the combination pinpoint and diffuse stimulation. The tip of the Limon can get right to the exposed part of my clit while the rounded body accesses the internal structures within. It’s delicious juxtapositions like this (and the We-Vibe Touch, for example) that give me some surprisingly strong orgasms. The vibrations are rumbly and fairly quiet (as long as you don’t put it down on a firm surface like a table).

It can be a little unwieldy, I must admit, because it’s a rounded toy. Covered in lube and in the heat of the moment, it can get a little awkward and frustrating. But it’s so different than anything else out there, that I am willing to overlook that minor annoyance because overall it is a really fun toy to use. Also, it’s great to know that once you’ve locked your setting in, squeezing the midsection won’t erase it. So when you’re really getting into it you won’t throw off your groove by accidentally squeezing it.

I think the Limon is a fabulous toy for people who have reach issues or trouble with fine motor skills. When using it free form it just needs to be squeezed to get the desired vibration strength so you don’t have to be so on point with small, hard to navigate buttons.

Specs

The Limon comes in teal or pink (sorry, no yellow!). It’s about 3 inches in length from tip to end and about 6 inches in circumference. It is waterproof and made out of a delicious silky silicone that doesn’t pick up much lint at all. I recommend sticking to water-based lube with the Limon because it’s silicone. I just use soap and warm water to clean it, but antibacterial toy cleaner would be a good alternative. You cannot boil it, obviously, because it’s got the motor and whatnot. It comes with a little pouch to store it in, but the cylinder package is pretty great for that too, if you don’t need a ton of discretion. Speaking of being discreet, charging turns the Limon into a kind of nightlight. So just be aware of that. It is rechargeable via the little USB docking station.
