Review: Playbox Kinky Subscription Box (July 2016 Edition)

Playbox_1These days, there are subscription box services for just about any category of items you might want. Welcome to the future! I personally do not use any of these services at this time, but I like the idea.

How is this relevant to me and my reviews? Well, I’ve vaguely heard of “adult” subscription boxes off and on for a year or so, but nothing really sticks in my mind. Still, I think this concept has potential. On the one hand, there’s the idea of a sex toy subscription box, which on it’s own is still a bit vague. On the other hand, it could be focused to one type of toy or another, or side of the sexual spectrum or another. And that, I think, is where things can get interesting.

Enter Playbox. More than simply a “sex toy” subscription box, they aim to cater to those who are exploring kink. For now, they offer “beginner” kink items and hope to have more advanced items in future. Each month’s box will have a different theme. I received the July box for review.

Playbox_4You can opt in to a monthly subscription (3, 6, or 12 months) or just purchase a stand-alone box. Boxes are currently $85 each whether it’s a monthly or single box. As they add to their inventory and grow as a company, they may end up implementing reduced pricing if folks commit to a subscription.

As of this post they do not have an affiliate program. So, know that I’m not making a percentage if you make a purchase as compared to most other reviews I do. I still encourage you to check them out through the links in this post. (If you do make a purchase, tell them Dr Vixenne sent you!)

Packaging: The box itself was a simple black, cardboard box that was super discreet. Nothing on the outside would alert anyone to the sexy contents within.

The July Playbox comes with

  • an enema bulb
  • a glass butt plug/dildo by Rottn Priks Glass
  • 3 nickel plated, multi-use cock rings
  • a lube launcher
  • veterinary-grade lube
  • 3 external (“male”) latex condoms

Playbox_3Full disclosure, I was unable to physically try most of the items from my box. My butt play”skills” are not quite on par for a glass toy, but I did insert it vaginally for a little bit. I love glass toys. If it was a bit longer, it’d make for an awesome dildo.

I really like the cock rings, but as someone who neither has a bio cock nor otherwise a penis in her life currently, it made me wonder how I felt about receiving an item I had no real use for. I mulled this over for a while and it occurred to me that the differently sized rings could potentially substitute for the O-rings on a strap on harness. (It’s good to think outside the box, in this case, literally.)

One of these days I may try a simple (lukewarm) water enema, so this reusable bulb is great for that. (If and when I do, I’ll consider updating this post with that info.)

This screenshot below (taken Aug. 26, 2016) of the stand-alone shopping page shows the June and July boxes along with placeholders for August (bondage), September (sounds like it’ll be a temperature play box), and October

Playbox_2Overall, I love the concept behind Playbox. And I adore the people, too! Sasha and Sir Rucifer are awesome! In terms of this box in particular, I would have preferred to receive something more directly related to kink/BDSM or sensation play, but that’s a) my own personal framing of “kink;” and b) one of the downsides of a subscription box service: not always liking or being able to use all of the items that were sent to you.

I highly recommend checking Playbox out. Perhaps it might fill a need for you in your kinky journey, or might be a great idea for a gift to someone you have sexy times with!

[I received this Playbox for free in exchange for my honest review.]
