Review: Leaf Spirit Vibrator

Leaf Spirit

The Leaf Spirit appears to be discontinued.

Check out other Leaf toys here.

I want to love the Leaf Spirit. I dig the color – bright green! It’s very much in keeping with the nature-y, eco-sexy theme Leaf’s brand is going for (though, they have come out with some purple versions, too). Did I have orgasms with Spirit? Yes, I did. If I’m being honest they weren’t bad. My world wasn’t rocked, either. But, I’m getting way ahead of myself.

Less is more, sometimes.

The Leaf Spirit vibrator is very small and buzzy. Because it’s so small I really felt the vibrations in my fingers as I held it on my clit. I tried flipping it around to see what kind of sensation that might yield and it’s much duller. It seems like the vibration is particularly focused in the tip of the leaf. In my earliest trials with Spirit, I recall thinking that it would be a perfect toy if you were into forced orgasm play. The frequency of the vibrations are borderline annoying to me. I can definitely have orgasms with Spirit because it is surprisingly strong, but my clit feels super sensitive when I’m using it, like it’s too much.

One thing I really enjoyed was to try to amp up my arousal slowly. I’d have Spirit on high (natch) and with some lube I’d slowly run the tip up and down my labia and around my clit, sort of teasing. That helped a bit to reduce the irritating, overly sensitive feeling of just diving in.

We-Vibe Touch_Leaf Spirit ComparisonLet’s talk functionality. Spirit has only one button. Usually that wouldn’t bother me if I were, say, flipping through speeds and/or patterns on a vibrator (as with We-Vibe’s Touch and Tango), but the fact that this one button has to be held down (as opposed to clicking) to increase the speed is extremely frustrating. There’s no precision to it, so, sometimes I’ll overshoot it and turn it off again. On the upside, it’s kind of refreshing to not have to deal with bullshit patterns. I hardly ever use most patterns that vibrators have, and at most I’ll sometimes enjoy one out of 4.

Is the Leaf Spirit fat friendly? It’s hard to say conclusively. (It’s not like I am representative of all plus size folks who use vibrators.) However, as someone with a voluptuous tummy it’s kind of challenging to use the Spirit if I’m also trying to use a toy for penetration because the toy is so small. It works, don’t get me wrong, but additional length would be helpful.

One other thing…

Leaf Spirit ChargingI hate to do it, but I must note the circumstances of receiving the Spirit. I was in correspondence with Sandra of SheVibe about a new toy to review. Upon arrival of the toy, I plugged it in to charge. The whole time it appeared to be charging (just like in the image to the right). After many hours, I unplugged it and went to turn it on. No such luck. I tried several times. Apparently, Spirit arrives in the travel lock mode, so I followed the instructions to unlock it. Still nothing. I let Sandra know that I believed the unit was defective. So we swapped it out and I was sent another. I guess this is a thing that happens. Not often, but it does happen, just so you know.

Specs

Leaf Spirit ChargerSpirit measures 2.8 inches long and 1.8 inches wide. (You see? It’s freakin’ small!) It is rechargeable. Easy to overlook, but super helpful, Leaf includes a little branded tag on their USB cord. You can plug into your computer to charge or into any USB adapter (like for iPhones) or you can snag one from SheVibe here. I don’t know about you, but after a while, I just can’t keep track of what charger goes to what, so that little tag is a nice touch.

I really like the kind of matte silicone the Leaf Spirit is made out of. It’s a little bit of a lint magnet, which is annoying, but pretty much par for the course in the sex toy world. I only used water-based lube with it and, in fact, there was a sticker on the packaging specifically advising not to use silicone lube.

Is Spirit noisy? Of course it isn’t silent, but it is pretty quiet as far as vibrators go, especially when it’s being pressed onto flesh.

Cleaning the Spirit is pretty easy. I use soap and warm water. You can use toy cleaner, or spritz it with 10% bleach solution and then wash it off. Spirit is waterproof but it is not boilable or dishwasher-safe because (obviously) there is a motor and you will basically be throwing your money away.

Leaf Spirit PackagingIt comes with a little woven pouch to store the vibe in (along with the cord, I’m sure), but the box is pretty good for storage as well. All of the packaging really evokes this sense of eco-friendliness and recycling. I almost feel like I’m doing something good for the world by owning it.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Spirit is a good toy, but I doubt that it will replace my We-Vibe Touch as my go-to clit vibe. I have orgasms with it, but the vibrations are not on a frequency I’d prefer. If there is ever a second generation of Spirit I would hope that the power button would be a bit easier to work.

Major thanks to SheVibe for sending me the Spirit to try out and for being so flexible and understanding when the toy malfunctioned!

Actually, knowing that Leaf and JOPEN are sister companies – the defective thing upon arrival is often. Let me think off of the top of my head – Vr3, Vr5.5, Vr7, Envy 2, Vr6.5 out of my JOPEN collection all arrived defective for me. Having 5 out of 15ish defective is pretty high odds and I know others have had similar issues.

I have the Leaf Vitality Plus on my wish list. I can tell just by looking at the Spirit that the shape would likely be problematic for me. I can’t handle pinpoint stimulation -unless- we’re talking about a forced orgasm situation.

Yeah. The pinpoint is a bit too much. Quite different than even the We-Vibe Touch, because it’s little more broad (in addition to the rumbly vibration).
