Review: Tantus Slow Drive vs. Sport

You want it quick and dirty. You came for the TL;DR and I don’t blame you for a second. Both the Sport and the Slow Drive came out early in 2014. They both look pretty awesome. Both have a long and short version. This review is only of the smaller versions. Unfortunately, I don’t have a quick and easy tl;dr for you. Sorry to disappoint! I thought I was going to when I started writing. Then I tested them out again and, well, here we are. Two great toys.

Tantus Sport and Slow Drive

Smooth and sleek, both Slow Drive and Sport are sweet silicone dildos from Tantus. They’re fairly unassuming toys. They’re not particularly girthy. (Sport is on the thin side.) Length-wise these are on the modest end of the spectrum, too. So what is it about each of them that makes them so different?

Slow Drive

Tantus Slow DriveI splurged and bought the Slow Drive for myself because I was curious. I wanted to know what the fuss was about. Also the teal color is lovely, isn’t it? (More about the colors in the Specs.) Since I’ve been exploring more g-spot sorts of stimulation recently, the hooked tip really intrigued me. It is reminiscent of the “come hither” motion often recommended for fingering. It hooks behind my g-spot, cradling it quite nicely.

Once while testing, I used the Slow Drive after the Sport; I was a little sad. Arousal makes our anatomy shift around a little bit. Switching back to the smaller, and slightly girthier Slow Drive wasn’t as satisfying in that case as it had been at other times I used it.

On its own, Slow Drive is lovely. It gets at the g-spot, and does not relent. I’d say it’s probably best as a warm up toy because it is texture-free and not super girthy.

Sport

The extra length of Sport doesn’t seem like it would be so amazing. But more than a g-spotting person (which I totes am), I love having my A-spot stimulated. For those playing the home game: The A-spot is the anterior fornix. It is an area past the g-spot on the upper (or anterior) wall of the vaginal canal close to the cervix. When my A-spot gets some attention, I lose my capacity for forming sentences. I can barely find words. The Tantus Sport is just slightly longer than the Slow Drive making it perfect for stroking the ever loving crap out of my A-spot.Tantus Sport

Part of me lamented (to myself? to Siri while I dictated my notes?) about the lack of girth in the Sport. I love a girthy dildo. Length is nice, but it’s kind of secondary. A nice, satisfying thickness can make a toy. However, if you need girth I might not recommend Sport to you. I’d be curious to see a thicker version, but at the same time, it occurs to me that that might be overwhelming – and not in the good way. The more warmed up I got using Sport, the less I cared about how thick it wasn’t. It was getting me in a deeper way.

I couldn’t capture it in a photo, but the back of the Sport has a raised ridge that can be felt with the fingers, but it was totally imperceptible in use.

Tantus Sport and Slow Drive - teardrop basesThe new teardrop base is a nice touch on both these dildos. It helps for orienting the curve so you get it where you need it. At the same time, they are kind of flimsy, not nearly as firm as other Tantus bases. That’s not a huge problem, but it’s a bit challenging and my hand cramped up. (Although, let’s be honest, my cunt can usually take more than my hand any hand can dish out.) It could totally be my imagination, but I think the base on the Sport is a little bit flimsier. I wonder if it’s because of the color (like I know chemistry?) or what, but it was something that struck me in use.

I would surmise that the longer versions of both of these dildos would be better options in partnered-strap-on usage. Some length is usually lost in the harness and o-ring situation as well as just the make up of folks’ bodies. The extra length isn’t anything to scoff at either. Slow Drive Long is 7 inches insertable and Sport Long is 7.5 inches insertable.

The biggest negative, and silicone dildo aficionados will know about this: This kind of silicone (the glossy kind) is a lint magnet. It’s annoying, but it’s easy enough to work around with rinsing before use and storing it in a plastic baggie between uses.

Quick specs

  • Both toys are made with amazing, body-safe Tantus silicone. Easy to wash and care for. Warm water and soap; 10% bleach to 90% water solution; top rack of the dishwasher safe; boilable.
  • Both toys are harness compatible. You might consider getting Tantus’ set of six O-rings to ensure a secure fit.
  • The Sport has an insertable length of 5.5 inches and is 4.25″ in circumference at the head; a slight gradation of  3.5″ – 3.75″ along the shaft (slightly thicker toward the base).
  • The Slow Drive is 5 inches insertable and just under 4.25″ around the shaft with a 4 inch circumference at head.
  • Colors: As of this posting both toys come in silver, midnight purple, and black. (Also a Limited Edition purple-y color.) Take a look at the colors (and other lengths) for Sport and Slow Drive (including the Grab Bag versions when available). The teal color of my Slow Drive was a limited edition. There were also lovely lime-green ones! So cute! If you’re curious about those, here is a pic I Instagrammed back in March at CatalystCon-East.
  • And of course, both Slow Drive and Sport are butt-safe because they have flared bases!

Had I written this review before “one last go” with these I probably was going to say hands down the Slow Drive is the “better of the two.” But the last trial may have made me switch camps. It’s not as though there needs to be one twue winner. Not at all. Still, if I must choose one, I’d go with the Sport.

Major thanks to Tantus for sending me the Sport to review! I would have never guessed I would like it as much as I did!

Ah, so hard to choose! As for the colours, myself I thought I’d find the silver/grey the prettiest… but I actually like the teal best. So, if by some miracle I would buy a teal Sport Long someday, it seems it would be a great choice.

Oooh! I have no idea if or when they’ll be back, but I totally hear you on that. Tantus makes some gorgeous colors for their toys. Thanks for reading!
